Digital Nomad Visa

A permit for people working remotely for clients abroad. It requires a net income of €3,500 a month, lasts up to 3 years and is capped by a quota.

The Digital Nomad Visa is a legal way to live in Cyprus while working remotely for a foreign employer or foreign clients. The main requirement is a net income of at least €3,500 a month after taxes and contributions.

Conditions

  • Non-EU and non-EEA citizenship.
  • Remote work for an employer abroad, or self-employment with clients abroad.
  • Working for Cypriot clients is prohibited.
  • The first permit is for 1 year, renewable for a maximum of 2 more. No more than 3 years in total.
  • Family (a spouse or partner and minor children) get a permit for the same period but with no right to work.

Applying

  1. Enter Cyprus legally and file the application within 3 months of entry.
  2. Apply only at the Migration Department head office in Nicosia, in person or through a representative. Applications with missing documents are not accepted.
  3. Attach your passport (valid for at least 3 months), a contract or employer's letter or proof of a business abroad, 6 months of statements, private medical insurance, proof of accommodation, a criminal record certificate and a medical examination.
  4. Pay €70 for the permit and €70 for the first ARC registration.
  5. Give biometrics in Nicosia or at your district police unit.
  6. File renewals no later than a month before expiry.

The official processing time is 5–7 weeks; in high season it is 2–3 months in practice.

Tax and healthcare

  • If you spend more than 183 days a year in Cyprus, you become a tax resident with everything that entails.
  • Non-dom status is available: 0% defence contribution on dividends and interest for 17 years.
  • GESY is not available to DNV holders — you need private medical insurance covering inpatient and outpatient care, roughly €500–1,500 a year.
