You are a Cypriot tax resident if you spend more than 183 days here in a calendar year. There is also a favourable 60-day rule for people who travel a lot. The TIC tax number is issued online in 1–3 days, free of charge.
The 183-day rule
No extra conditions: more than 183 days in Cyprus in a calendar year makes you a resident. The day of arrival counts as a day in Cyprus, the day of departure as a day outside. Arriving and leaving on the same day counts as a day in Cyprus.
The 60-day rule
It applies if all the conditions are met at once:
- You spend no more than 183 days in total in any other single country.
- You spend at least 60 days in Cyprus.
- You run a business, work under an employment contract or serve as a director of a Cypriot company — and don't stop during the year.
- You have a permanent home in Cyprus, owned or rented.
How to get a TIC
- Go to the Tax For All portal, create an account and confirm your email address.
- Choose "Register as a new taxpayer" → "Register an Individual", form T.D.2001.
- Attach the documents: EU citizens — the yellow slip; third-country nationals — a copy of the residence permit (pink slip or ARC) plus the passport.
- Attach proof of address: a rental contract or a utility bill no more than 3 months old.
- Wait for the number — usually 1–3 working days for individuals, 5–10 for companies. Free of charge.
Tax residency certificate
You request it through Tax For All for the past year, after filing your return. It is needed to apply double taxation treaties. If you rely on the 60-day rule, the tax office may ask for evidence: tickets, a rental contract, an employment contract.
