GESY (Γενικό Σύστημα Υγείας) is the national health system with very low co-payments. The key question is whether you qualify: that depends on your status, not simply on living here.
Who counts as a beneficiary
- The basic condition for everyone: permanent residence in the area controlled by the Republic of Cyprus.
- Third-country nationals — under one of these conditions: employment with a work permit; permanent or long-term resident status; refugee or subsidiary protection status; being a family member of a beneficiary; insurance in another EU country (form S1).
- EU citizens — employment or self-employment, permanent resident status, family membership of a beneficiary, or form S1.
- Dependants — the spouse and children of a beneficiary register as family members with a marriage or birth certificate. Children under 21 count as dependants.
How to register
- Make sure you have an ARC and, if you work, a registration with the Social Insurance Services.
- Go to the beneficiary portal registration.gesy.org.cy and create an account: you need a unique email address and mobile number, and confirmation codes will be sent.
- Link the account to your beneficiary record and file the enrolment application.
- Attach the documents: a copy of your ARC, the signed form, and proof of permanent residence (electricity and water bills, rental contract, tax return). For family members: a birth or marriage certificate plus the main beneficiary's ARC.
- Choose a personal doctor — a GP for adults from 15, or a paediatrician for children.
You can also register offline — through the personal doctor themselves, if no extra documents are needed, or through a third party with a portal account.

The income cap for calculating contributions is €180,000 a year across all sources combined. The rates did not change in 2026.
