There are two international airports — Larnaca (LCA) and Paphos (PFO), both run by Hermes Airports. A ferry to Greece runs in summer, and you can travel to the north of the island through nine crossings.
The airports
- Larnaca is the main one, with around 10 million passengers a year; Paphos handles around 4 million.
- From Larnaca: Kapnos to Nicosia for €9, Limassol Airport Express to Limassol for €10, city bus 425 into Larnaca.
- From Paphos: bus 612 to Kato Paphos for €1.50, Limassol Airport Express to Limassol.
- Metered taxis, Bolt and RideNow car sharing are available at both.
The ferry to Greece
- A seasonal Limassol — Piraeus route, running roughly from late May to early September.
- The crossing takes about 31 hours, with around 22 round trips a season.
- Prices: from €40 per deck passenger, from €75 for a cabin, from €120 for a car one way.
- Check-in is 4 hours before, and boarding closes an hour before. Electric cars are accepted with no more than 40% charge.
Trips to the north
- Nine crossings. In Nicosia, Ledra Street and Ledra Palace are pedestrian; Agios Dometios is for cars.
- Cypriot and EU citizens cross on an ID card, most third-country nationals on a passport. Pink slip and ARC holders cross on a passport, and the Republic does not stamp passports.
- Cypriot insurance is not valid in the north: a local policy is bought at the crossing — around €20 for 3 days or €35 for a month.
- Hire cars only with the rental company's written permission, and many forbid it. RideNow car sharing is not allowed.
- Coming back you may bring goods worth up to €260, 40 cigarettes and 1 litre of alcohol. Animals may not be brought from the north to the south.
