Electricity in Cyprus is among the most expensive in the EU — about 25–32 cents per kilowatt-hour with all the surcharges. Bills come every two months, and transferring the account into your name requires a deposit.
How to transfer the account into your name
- Gather the documents: the rental contract or title deed plus your passport and ARC.
- If you are taking over from a previous customer — their written consent, or your declaration that the previous occupant has left.
- Email the scans to your Customer Service Centre or go in person.
- Pay the transfer fee — €15 plus VAT — and lodge the deposit.
Exactly what EAC asks for
- The title deed, the contract of sale or a valid rental agreement for the premises.
- An identity card, passport, ARC or other legally valid identification.
- A power of attorney if a representative applies: certified, valid for up to five years.
- For a new connection — the Inspection Date Form carrying the MDMS service point ID.
- For a transfer — the written consent of the previous customer.
- For a legal entity, additionally: the certificate of incorporation, the certificate of shareholders and directors, and EAC guarantee document Ε-ΠΚ-115 signed by a director or shareholder.

A tenant pays the deposit when signing the contract, an owner with the first bill. The deposit is returned when the contract is closed.
What makes up the bill
- Energy at around 10.3 cents per kWh, distribution around 3.7 cents, transmission around 0.9 cents.
- The fuel adjustment changes every month and makes up a noticeable share of the bill — around 7.1 cents per kWh in September 2026.
- The renewable energy and energy-saving levy — 0.5 cents.
- VAT on electricity is reduced to 9%, extended until 31 March 2027.
- A typical family uses 300–500 kWh a month, i.e. €85–160 a month or €170–320 per two-monthly bill.
Power cuts
Planned and emergency outages are listed on the EAC page once you select your district. In 2026 cuts were caused by strikes, by power station faults and by storms.
Sun on the roof
About 93% of households heat water with solar collectors: a tank on the roof, with an electric element switched on in winter and on cloudy days (the "boiler" switch in the flat, 30–60 minutes before a shower). Net metering with one-to-one offsetting is closed to new applications: from 2026 only net billing applies, where exports to the grid are paid at the wholesale price.
