Traffic drives on the left, and at a roundabout priority goes to those already on it. Limits are 50 in towns, 80 outside built-up areas and 100 on motorways with a 65 minimum.
Speed
- 50 km/h in built-up areas; the historic centre of Limassol and parts of Nicosia have 30 km/h zones.
- 80 km/h outside built-up areas, 100 km/h on motorways (minimum 65).
- Fines: up to 30% over the limit — €1 per km/h; 30–50% — €2 per km/h; 50–75% — €3–5 per km/h plus penalty points; over 75% — court.
Alcohol
- The general limit is 22 µg per 100 ml of breath (0.5‰ in blood).
- For drivers with less than 3 years' experience, motorcyclists and professional drivers it is 9 µg.
- Fines: 23–35 µg — €100; 36–55 — €200; 56–70 — €300; above 71 — court, with a possible ban and prison sentence.
- Random alcohol and drug checks at night and on holidays are routine.

Seatbelts are compulsory in every seat. Children under 12 and shorter than 150 cm must be in a child restraint. Helmets are compulsory on motorcycles and scooters. A temporary ban kicks in at 16 penalty points, and points last 3 years.
Cameras and payment
- The camera enforcement system has been running since 2021: 110 units — 90 fixed at 30 locations and 20 mobile vans in the four main cities.
- The cameras record speed, red lights, stop lines, seatbelts, helmets and phone use.
- Check your fines at cycamerasystem.com.cy using your ID, ARC or passport plus the registration number, or on gov.cy.
- Pay through JCC Smart, gov.cy or the same camera portal.
Electric scooters
Since May 2026 the minimum age is 17 and the maximum speed 20 km/h (10 km/h on pavements where the municipality allows it). A helmet and a reflective vest are compulsory, with an €85 fine. In Paphos the municipality has banned scooters in public places.
